Follow the Steps Below
Hey there! Are you ready to get your WordPress blog up and running? I’ve made it super easy to follow along. I personally use a HostPapa Optimized WordPress Hosting Plan for this blog so it is what I use to demonstrate how to get a WordPress website of your own.
By using my referral link for your web hosting, you not only get an awesome web hosting provider, but you also help to support this website and keep this course free for yourself and others that want to get started with their own blog. Thank you for your support!
Please follow the steps and view the videos below to ensure that you get your WordPress blog installed properly. I’ve also included the settings that I use, plugins, and show you how to install Google Analytics using a plugin.
Congrats on finishing Lesson 1! You should have your niche picked out and now you are ready to get your own self-hosted WordPress blog.
Getting a blog is SUPER EASY! You don’t need any technical background whatsoever.
I will explain how to get your own free domain name and WordPress auto-installed for you using HostPapa web hosting.
Why You Should Avoid Free Blogging Services
I don’t recommend using free blogging services for a couple of reasons to include:
Your Account Can Be Closed At Any time
- When you use free blogging services, they have the authority to close accounts at any time for any reason. Your niche blog is your long-term business. It is far too easy and inexpensive to get your own self-hosted website.
Your Blog Will Have Limitations
- Free blogging services often limit your storage space as well as how you can make money with your blog. They will not allow you to place ads on your blog or post affiliate links. However, they will place their ads on your blog and you’ll have to pay monthly fees to have them removed.
Step 1: Think About a Domain Name
Choosing a domain name is a fun process. You can choose a name that is related to your niche or you could use your own name for your domain.
I like to keep my domain name short and easy to remember. I also prefer to buy domain names with the .com extension. However, if the domain you want isn’t available in .com, you can opt to use any other TLD (top level domain) extension.
When you move on with the process below, you’ll be able to check for your domain availability. Remember, you get a free domain name using the steps below.
Step 2: Select an Optimized WordPress Hosting Plan
I recommend that you choose an optimized WordPress hosting plan versus a shared hosting plan for two main reasons.
The first is that as a new customer, you will get a one-year FREE domain registration. Second, HostPapa will auto-install WordPress for you on your new domain.
You can select the WP Starter Plan for $3.95 per month:
This plan has everything that you need to run your niche blog.
Step 3: Enter Your Domain Name
After you select your plan, you’ll be asked to enter your domain name. Input the domain name that you have in mind.
Click the “check availability” button and HostPapa will let you know if the domain you’ve chosen is available:
After that, you’ll be taken to the payment processing page. Look over all of your selections.
You can check or uncheck the other features offered and it will automatically adjust your pricing.
Step 4: Confirmation Email
Once you have completed the payment processing, HostPapa will begin setting up your new domain and installing WordPress.
You will receive a confirmation email with all of the details for your new account similar to what I received below:
Do I Have to Use HostPapa Web Hosting?
Not at all! You can use any commercial web hosting provider that you like. I use and recommend HostPapa because they are an excellent web hosting provider for new bloggers.
They have an extensive knowledge base, 24/7 customer support, auto-installed WordPress service, and they offer a free 30-minute one-on-one training session for new customers.
What If I Already Have a Domain Name or Blog?
It is no problem. You can still follow along with this course and hopefully learn some new strategies to help you earn income with your blog. If you want to switch hosting providers, HostPapa can transfer your blog to their service for free!
Step 5: Settings, Plugins, and Pages
I created a short video explaining the plugins and pages that I create for each niche blog that I create:
Here is a list of the plugins that I install on my blogs:
Step 6: Google Analytics
The final thing you’ll want to do is set up your Google Analytics. This will let you know how many visitors you are receiving to your blog.
You will need a Google account. If you have a GMail account then you are all set. You’ll then need to create an account with Google Analytics.
Follow along with the video below and I’ll show you how to install your analytics tracking ID using a WordPress plugin called GA Google Analytics.
Congrats! You’re Set!
You are now ready to move on in this course using your new blog.
