Building a mailing list is essential for all niche bloggers. The reason being is that you want to establish your own customer base.

I’m not referring to a postal mail type of mailing list. I’m talking about building an email newsletter list.

Like any other form of content, you’ll need to provide ongoing value with your mailing list. By doing so, you’ll have a customer base that you can reach out to when you are promoting products or services that may benefit them.

Obtaining an Autoresponder

The one thing you will need to build your mailing list is an autoresponder. An autoresponder is an email software service that will collect and store your email subscribers for you.

You can then set up messages to send to your list at specific times. There are several good autoresponder services available.

I use and recommend AWeber. They have great software, excellent customer support, and they have been around for over 20 years.

What You Get with an Autoresponder

Most commercial autoresponder services will provide you with sign-up forms that you can add to your blog.

They usually have various email templates that you can choose from as well. All of this makes it easy to build your list and create messages.

Types of Messages That You Can Send

How often you send email messages is up to you. I like to send at least 7 to 12 daily messages for my mailing lists.

I write out the messages and schedule them to send one after the other each day.

follow up messages

You can fill your autoresponder with an email course or helpful tips. You can also set up your autoresponder to send a new message each time you post a new blog post. That is usually referred to as a blog broadcast.

Offering an Incentive

In most cases, it helps to offer some type of free offer in order to get people to subscribe to your mailing list.

For example, on this blog, I offer my free niche blogging course and recommend that visitors subscribe to my mailing list to receive task reminders and other information.

You could create an eBook (PDF file) with tips related to your niche. Offer it for free when subscribing and you’ll soon have your very first subscribers.

Other free offers can include:

  • A 7-day email course
  • A free video tutorial
  • A coupon code

I created that landing page as I have a background in web design. However, you can use landing page software such as ClickFunnels™ or LeadPages to create something similar.

Wrapping Up

I recommend building a mailing list as soon as possible. It is important to have your own customer base that you can reach out to at anytime.

Respect your mailing list by sharing valuable advice related to your niche and when it comes time to promote an affiliate product or service, you’ll likely make sales.
